Job scams have always been commonplace, but during
recessions, they become more prevalent and crop up in the most
unexpected places.
Usually, they come in the form of work from home schemes,
where you are promised unlimited earnings potential from
conducting some kind of work from home.
All job scams have one thing in common. They ask you for
money.
The simplest advice when seeking any kind of employment, or
considering any work from home scheme is to avoid any company
that asks for money.
The idea of working for a living is that the employer (or
client if you're self-employed) pays you money in return for
your efforts.
However, some unscrupulous individuals set up work from home
schemes and ask you to send them money. They will tell you that
you have to pay for things like samples, materials, training,
tools and other such things, but in reality, you are never
going to earn any money and you'll be throwing your money away,
no matter how convincing their stories are!
Here is a selection of the type of thing you should be
avoiding:
- Addressing Envelopes
Addressing Envelopes - avoid so called jobs that involve stuffing envelopes and addressing them. This is a complete scam and will involve you spending money. You will not earn any money.
- Assembly Jobs
Assembly jobs - usually advertised as a work from home scheme, where you assemble kits that are sent to you by a manufacturer. This is ALWAYS a scam and you will lose money if you answer any advertisement for home based assembly workers.
